Business Structure/ Mission & Vision

Based on a vote and survey, our group of organizers decided on a business structure. A worker self-directed nonprofit. To read more about the structure of a worker self directed non profit, see this link.

Upon deciding to pursue the makerspace as a worker self directed nonprofit, the group got to work on writing a mission and vision.

Mission

To provide creative space and resources for our community to make, share, and learn together.

Vision

We want to empower a community driven art scene & enable the local making culture to flourish.

While using our list of values written in previous meetings to wordsmith a concise mission and vision the group crafted this extended write up:

We are a new makerspace in the Flathead Valley. We exist to provide creative space and resources for our community to make, share and learn together. We want to provide this access to empower the community driven art scene and a flourishing making-culture here in Northwest MT.

We simply want to make it easier for people to make things. We see many local artists and creatives limited by the cost of renting a workspace. We want to help eliminate that limitation by providing affordable workspace for makers of all kinds to pursue their unique creative endeavors.

We also see makers limited by access to making tools and knowledge. We want to establish a tool library so that Making Place members can access tools that would otherwise be hard to buy and use individually. Increased access to tools will help our makers create more effectively and experiment with new methods. Additionally we want to promote intra-community skill sharing through workshops, classes, and events.

We believe locally making art and goods is important for our community to be self-reliant, resilient and to preserve our cultural identity. We want The Making Place to be a community hub that brings people together. There is a need in the Valley for more positive social spaces that do not revolve around alcohol or consumption. In addition to a place for making, The Making Place will serve our community as being a third space for people to connect and hangout.

Our group values include:

SUPPORT the best interests of artists, makers, and those that want to create,

INCLUDE this is an inclusive community space welcoming all people,

SHARE in creating a collaboratively built and operated space,

SUSTAIN we want to use this space to embetter our community and world

We look forward to creating this space together!
